The world No. 4 badminton mixed doubles team of Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung (Incheon International Airport) advanced to the quarterfinals and continued their medal hunt.

Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung defeated Thailand's Teachapol Puavaranukro and Sapsiri Taeratthanachai 2-0 (21-13 21-10) in the round of 16 of the badminton mixed doubles at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games at Binjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China on Thursday.

Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung are the only mixed doubles pair remaining in the tournament.

After their teammates Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance) and Jung Na-eun (Hwasun County Government) fell to Indonesia in the round of 32 two days ago, Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung are the only doubles pair to challenge for gold.

After a tight opening game against Thailand, Korea pulled away midway through to take a 13-8 lead.

Once they took the lead, Korea's offense intensified. They scored seven points to Thailand's four to reach the 20-point mark before Seo Seung-jae's short attack was successful at 20-13 to take the first game.

The second game also went Korea's way. They jumped out to an early lead and went into the intermission with an 11-4 advantage.

A series of unforced errors caused Thailand to lose momentum, and Korea racked up points with ease. At 20-10, a Thai shuttlecock caught in the net after Seo Seung-jae's attack sealed the match.

The mixed doubles quarterfinals will take place on Friday morning. 19가이드03
