First Day of Wrestling 'No Gold'

South Korean wrestling standouts Kim Hyun-woo and Ryu Hansu (Samsung Life Insurance) failed to win gold at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

Kim lost 3-9 to Amin Khavianinejad (IRAN) in the round of 16 of the men's Greco-Roman 77 kg category in the first round of the wrestling competition on Thursday at the Lin'an Sports and Cultural Exhibition Center in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.

Kim Hyun-woo took a 3-0 lead with a sideways takedown after earning a point for a foul on his opponent.

However, he conceded the next eight points and collapsed.

Ryu Hansu (KOR), looking for his third consecutive Asian Games title, lost 0-9 to Daial Sorabi (IRAN) in the quarterfinals of the men's Greco-Roman 67kg category.

In the Greco-Roman style of wrestling, the match is over if the score is nine points or more.

Kim Hyun-woo won gold at the 2012 London Olympics, while Ryu Hansu won gold at the 2014 Incheon and 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.

They tried to finish the job for Yuzong at the Games, but fell short of the gold medal.

Kim Hyun-woo and Ryu Han-soo's chances of advancing to the losers' bracket will depend on Amin and Danial reaching the final, respectively.

They will be in the bronze medal match at most, but not the final.

Jeong Jung-jae (Suwon City Hall), who competed in the men's Greco-Roman 60 kg category, fell to Zoraman Sasenbekov (Kyrgyzstan) 0-9 in the quarterfinals.

Shin Byung-chul (Jeonbuk-do) fell in the round of 16 in the men's Greco-Roman 87 kg category. 스포츠토토링크
