Greek Mythology Casino Another Obstacle for Reopening

The Imperial Palace Hotel in Beijing (formerly known as the New Century Hotel and home to the closed Greek Xinhua Casino)

Rejected an appeal to the Macau final appeals court (TUI), meaning the court did not agree that the company had overpaid VIP game fees.

The hotel, one of the first "new" casinos to open in Taifa back in 2004, has been flooded with vague reports of operational problems and conditions. In May this year, the Chinese-language newspaper Macao Daily reported that hotel operator Empressa Hotel Leira de Macao had transferred the hotel to Victory Success Holdings Limited. Details were not available, but it was reported at the time that the transfer of the property was made to settle bad debts.

In October and November last year, workers at the building protested for eight months' overdue wages.

On New Year's Eve, the Greek Mythology Casino closed and did not reopen. Initially, there was no reason for the closure, but a company spokesperson said it was eventually closed for repairs and renovations. Casinos operating under SJM's licence remain closed and the latest court ruling could hamper reopening.

TUI's ruling could probably see the building sold to pay off debts in the form of unpaid VIP game fees. The ruling came in connection with fees lost to Hoi Cheng Nga, operator of an energy travel agency in Macau. According to a report by Macau's TDM News, Hoi was able to pressure the sale of assets to raise money owed. However, when the retailer asked her lawyer if she planned to pursue the path, her lawyer told them, "She just wants her money back."

The TDM also reported that a lawsuit over hotel ownership is under way in the British Virgin Islands court. The lawsuit is based on Ngman Sun Yat-sen's transfer of his stake to then-partner Chen Mei-hwan. Yes, Sun Yat-sen claims the transfer is temporary and Chen claims it is permanent.

He also founded the Greek Shinhwa Casino. Ng was the victim of an attack by six men inside the hotel. The hotel was closed for a while after the incident, but the casino remained open. Mr. Ng's Hong Kong-listed company, Amax International Holdings, now owns nearly 25% of Greek Xinhua Entertainment, which operated the Greek Xinhua Casino under SJM's license
