All bets were placed at the kiosk, with two winning tickets exchanged at the sportsbook counter and two other winning tickets exchanged at the kiosk.
MGM, which has heard potential violations of regulations by other Category 1 sports betting operators, has asked its supplier BetMGM to review all sports bets installed at Springfield Casino since sports bets began in Commonwealth. Following a review conducted on February 9 and February 10, 2023, MGM notified MGC's Sports Betting Division of the breach of regulations.
BetMGM previously incorrectly designated Harvard as being in Connecticut, so bets on unauthorized events were allowed. This error has been corrected and BetMGM confirms that all Massachusetts University teams are correctly positioned.
Following the incident, MGM conducted a daily audit of potential products before the sportsbook was opened for a day. BetMGM will also periodically conduct quality control reviews of internal instructional documents. This includes conducting a quarterly audit to check the newly added information and ensure continuous accuracy. MGM has also consistently emphasized the importance of vigilance in considering potential bets on non-compliance to sportsbook teams.
MGC appreciates MGM's self-report of non-compliance with the sports betting department and their work to prevent similar incidents of non-compliance in the future.
PPC accepted 33 bets across 27 tickets in the merrimack college vs Long Island college men's regular season basketball game on February 2, 2023.
On February 3, 2023, PPC informed MGC's Sports Betting Division that bets were accidentally offered at an unauthorized event and that bets were available for approximately seven hours at this event. The unapproved event was recognized by the PPC staff when the sponsor tried to cash in on the winning ticket including the event.
Sponsors often cashed in winning tickets before the PPC identified the problem and executed the solution, and sponsors who wanted to cashed in the winning ticket after the PPC identified the problem and executed the solution refunded the bet.
This event was caused by a backend data entry error that stated that Merrimack College's location was in Florida.
CAMBY, PPC's sports betting firm, resolved the issue and corrected the location of Merrimack University to Massachusetts. Cambie confirmed that no other games related to the Massachusetts team were offered. A review of the bet did not identify any suspicious betting behavior.
Cambi also conducted an audit of the University of Massachusetts sports teams to ensure that regular-season games did not or did not take place. PPC will continue to work with MGC's Sports Betting Division to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
MGC appreciates PPC's self-disclosure of these non-compliance, acknowledges and compensates team members for taking care of non-compliance incidents, and also notes that PPC and its suppliers have worked to rectify the problem and come up with measures to prevent future non-compliance.
EBH accepted one bet in the Boston College v Notre Dame Women's regular season basketball game on February 2, 2023, in a game where betting is not permitted under chapter 23 N of the Massachusetts General Act as well as MGC regulations.
On February 2, 2023, EBH notified MGC's Sports Betting Division that bets on this event were open for approximately five hours and that the five teams' play included one money line bet. The ineligible bet was invalidated prior to ticket payment.
The bet was installed in the EBH internal kiosk, and because the sponsor did not use the player card when making the bet, the EBH was unable to inform the sponsor of the ineligible bet until they returned to pay for the ticket.
Bets allowed in Boston College women's basketball were included in the black list of teams where only one of those names was not allowed to bet due to a system error known to two names on EBH's betting platform.
EBH reported that its supplier, WynnBET, is conducting a twice-daily audit to make it impossible for University of Massachusetts sports teams to bet on regular-season games. EBH will continue to work with MGC's Sports Betting Division to ensure that the list of University of Massachusetts teams is accurate.
MGC is grateful that EBH self-reported non-conformities to the sports betting sector and quickly identified the incident before the event took place.
