Maryland's six casinos combined generated $172,901,502 in gaming revenue during December 2021, making it the second-best month in Maryland casino program history. This is an increase of $53,545,054 (44.9%) compared to December 2020, when casinos were operating under capacity limits due to COVID-19.
Casino game contributions to the state totaled $71,098,308, an increase of $21,306,793 (42.8%) compared to $49,791,515 donated to the state in December 2020.
Education Trust Fund (ETF) contributions in December 2021 were $51,736,885, up $15,529,745 (42.9%) compared to $36,207,140 ETF contributions in December 2020. Casino game revenue also supports the communities and jurisdictions where casinos are located, Maryland's horse racing industry and small, minority and women-owned businesses.
Casino's December earnings were $172.9 million, beating gaming revenue of $172.4 million generated in May 2021 and catching up with July 2021 figure of $180.1 million only.
"The combination of starting sports betting at five of the casinos during the holiday season and December led to great results," said John Martin, Maryland director of lottery and games. "We congratulate our casino partners on their continued success."
Maryland's six private casinos offer both slot machines and table games: MGM National Harbor in Prince George County; Casino Hotel in Ann Arundel County; Hosche Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City; Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County; Hollywood Casino Ferryville in Cecil County; and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County.
