1st place in short line… Freecer was reversed and Korea's 'accompanied silver' followed Shin Ji-ah the day before.

Kim Hyun-gyeom is raising the Korean national flag on the ice after winning a silver medal in the men's single at the 2023-2024 International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix Final, which ended in Beijing, China on the 9th.

Korean male figure skating prospect Kim Hyeon-gyeom (17, Han Advertising) won a silver medal at the Junior Grand Prix Final. This is the highest score ever achieved by a Korean male singles player in this competition.

Kim Hyun-gyeom ranked second in the men's singles at the 2023-2024 International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating Junior Grand Prix Final, which ended in Beijing, China, on the 9th, with a total score of 223.61 points, following Rio Nakata (15, Japan, 227.77 points). Previously, Cha Jun-hwan (22, Korea University) finished third in the 2016 competition, which was the best performance by a Korean male singles player.

The Grand Prix Final is a ‘King of Kings’ type competition in which only the top 6 players participate based on the performance of the 7 Grand Prix series in one season. Kim Hyun-gyeom won the runner-up in the second competition and won the fifth competition, earning a right to participate in the Grand Prix Final.

Kim Hyun-gyeom took first place in the short program on the 7th, setting a new personal high score of 77.01 points. Nakata was 4th with 67.71 points, 9.3 points behind Kim Hyun-gyeom. However, in the free skating on the 9th, Kim Hyun-gyeom (146.60 points) was pushed to second place, receiving 13.46 points lower than Nakata (160.06 points). While Kim Hyun-gyeom left something to be desired in terms of jump completion, such as falling during his first jump, the quadruple (fourth round) toe loop, Nakata performed cleanly and succeeded in coming from behind to win.

Kim Hyun-gyeom said, “I was very nervous and made some mistakes. “I was not satisfied with this competition, but I will not be nervous and will try to produce more satisfactory results in the next competition,” he said. With this silver medal, Kim Hyun-gyeom also successfully hunted for a medal along with Shin Ji-ah (15, Yeongdong Middle School), who won silver in the women's single the day before. This is the first time that Korean male and female singles players stood side by side on the podium at this competition. 19가이드03
