LG Twins closer Ko Woo-seok has vowed to break his international jinx at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

"Every time I put on the national team uniform, I feel a lot," he said after the team's official training session at the Shaoxing Baseball and Softball Sports Centre Baseball Field 1 near Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China, on Tuesday. "I've been injured before (at the World Baseball Classic), but this time I'm not in bad shape. I'm going to give it my best shot," he said.

"I felt very sorry for (the fans) because of my performance in the international tournament," he said, "so I want to wash my face like a chimney."

However, he said, "I also want to restrain myself because if I go too far, I might get into trouble."

He doesn't have many fond memories of international competitions.

In the eighth inning of a 2-2 tie against Japan at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2021, he made a mistake at first base with the bases covered that could have ended the inning.

A shaky Go gave up a single and a walk to put runners on the corners before collapsing.

The 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) earlier this year was also a disappointment.

Go injured his right shoulder in a practice game leading up to the tournament and was unable to play a single game in the tournament.

Having had to swallow his disappointment after each international tournament, he is preparing for this one with a different attitude than ever before.

"I will throw every day at the Hangzhou Asian Games," he said, "and I will definitely win a gold medal."

"I'm looking for games, but I'm trying not to feel disappointed," he said, adding, "I'm wearing the national team's uniform."

As of the 30th, LG has a seven-game lead over second-placed KT Wiz with 11 games remaining in the KBO, and is on track to clinch the regular season title during the Asian Games.

Go Woo-seok also revealed a conversation he had with his close friend and brother-in-law (his wife's brother) Lee Jung-hoo (Kiwoom Heroes).

Lee was selected for the Asian Games team, but had to drop out due to injury.

"Before I left for Hangzhou, he asked me if I felt his absence, so I told him I didn't," Go Woo-seok laughed, adding, "I told him that because I didn't want him to worry too much, and I told him I would come back with a good performance." 파워볼사이트
