Makeup beginners will come across a lot of new terms! This handy reference will help any makeup novice as you begin your makeup journey.

Skin Tone - A numerical range used to describe the natural color of the skin.
Skin Type - Used to describe the range of skin values ​​from dry to very oily. ie: dry skin or oily skin
Lip Gloss – a liquid/semi-gel lip gloss product that is applied from a tube using a soft wand. Lip colors and finishes vary a lot.

Foundation - An umbrella term for cosmetic products that are applied to the entire face or cheeks. Can be liquid, powder or cream. Usually used early in full face application.
Eyelash Line - The imaginary line is just outside, but follows the same curve as the eyelashes.
Upper Eyeliner - For Eyeliner and Mascara: Line on the outside of the lashes on the upper eyelid.
Lower Eyeliner - For Eyeliner and Mascara: Line on the outside of the lashes on the lower eyelid.
Waterline - For eyeliner and mascara: The line on the inside of the lashes on the lower or upper eyelid.
Apples of the cheeks - The round shape at the top of the cheek, usually on or above the cheekbones. If desired, makeup can move the appearance of the apples of the cheeks to a slightly different part of the face.
Cream Blush - A cosmetic designed to tint the cheeks. It looks like a powder but feels smoother to the touch.
Lip balm -- usually a lip treatment designed to help moisturise the lips -- is usually colorless.
Natural lip line - where the lips meet the face before makeup is applied.
Lip Liner - A makeup pencil usually used to outline or shape the lips. Can be used to completely fill lips.
Lip Color - Refers to the lip color after makeup.
Neutral Eyeshadows - Eyeshadows look very earthy or skin tones. No flashy colors.
Outer Corner – Regarding eye shadow: The corner of the eye furthest from the nose.
Inner Corner - About Eyeshadow: The corner of the eye closest to the nose.
Eyelash Curler - An inexpensive physical curling device for curling eyelashes.
Brow Pencil - A makeup pencil for making brows look more even or darker.
